    Some street gangs organize a rite of beating up a new member before accepting him as a new, legitimate gangster who is entitled to wear “colors”. The academics in Nordic countries have the same rite, sort of.

    Anyway, I read from ITviikko (yes, getting the paper version even in California :-) that all went well, and that you should be now addressed as Dr.
