‘Cannot find phone’ error in software updater

I’m reflashing one of our N95′s to take it into use. But for some reason the Nokia Software Updater wasn’t finding the phone even after all the drivers were installed, the computer rebooted, the phone reconnected etc.

Turned out the connectivity driver had picked a COM port for the USB connection that was already in use.

So to fix the error, you just have to connect the phone, go to Device Manager, go to the N95 COM port with a warning icon, properties, change the COM port to a reasonable one, disconnect, connect again and voila – the updater finds the phone.

Mebbe this is useful to somebody out there.

Hi, I am searching and searching for help, I have a N80 cell phone and have the same problem as you described, I checked my com ports in device manager and there are no “!” or “?” marks at all everything is OK there. PC suite works fine, I installed the newest version. I can transfer files, install files do everything with PC Suite without any problems.
I have downloaded and installed the new version of the Nokia Software Updater utility so I can update my firmware. The updater installed just fine without any errors. But when I try using it it gives the error “Phone not found” I must have clicked “Retry” at least 25 times without luck.
Also I notice during the “Search for phone” on the screen that it only searches for mabe 6-7 seconds, I do not know if thats normal or not.
Please feel free to email me at rgoldhammer@bak.rr.com if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

This has got nothing to do with this topic, but it is related to the nokia software updater. When i was updating my nokia 6680, i accidentally disconnected the phone and now my phone wouldn’t even on. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

It’s quite possible to break your phone with the software updater: you may have to take it to a service center.

Seems like that’s the only way. Ok i’ll send my phone to the service center. If you have any new suggestions, i hope you post it. Thanks for helping me.

Or just don’t use the USB hub. Connect the phone directly to the PC.

Configuring ports does not fix the issue in Linux/Mac ;-)
